Metamorphosis is a 50 ft. x 35 ft. mural located in the beautiful city of Norwich, Connecticut. This mural is commissioned by The Norwich Street Art Collective. With the initiative of giving color and hope to this community, the group was in charge of bringing Carlitos Skills and Golden 305 together for a week to paint their respective murals. The city of Norwich is well known worldwide as one of the most important destinations for the Casino Industry with more than 35 millions of visitors every year, however, the Downtown area was empty, without color or energy.
Metamorphosis, as a mission, came to change the environment; representing the city with the image of a woman and the change with butterflies. The penetrating gaze in the center of the mural evokes introspection and self-management. Going outside and seeing walls with vibrant colors motivate us, makes us feel that everything is possible.
This mural is located exactly in front of the city hall, which was built for the 1873. The city is full of classical architecture, which creates an incredible contrast with the mural and its colors.
With a super diverse community of nationalities, I was surprised to find a large number of boricuas (Puerto Ricans), which made me feel at home. The integration of the community with the mural fills me with a lot of positive energy and motivation. Seeing people stop and point out how good the mural is gives me fuel to continue this journey that was 12 hours a day for 5 days.
